Thanks to the partnership with BitPay: You can pay with Bitcoin in over 15,000 restaurants in France

Bitcoin payment processors such as BitPay have avoided the German payment market in the recent past. At the same time, the integration of cryptocurrencies in everyday payment processes is progressing in other European countries – as is now the case in France.

• Payment is made via BitPay

• No platform transaction fees

• Bitcoin payment option soon available to 27 million customers?

¬ Just Eat France, the French branch of the British order and delivery service Just Eat, now accepts Bitcoin as a means of payment throughout France. To make this possible, the delivery service cooperates with the US Bitcoin payment processor BitPay. Over 15,000 restaurants across France benefit from it.

This is how paying with Bitcoin via BitPay works

As the delivery service describes on its website, in order to be able to pay with Bitcoin, the customer has to buy a digital wallet via app or special software – also known as a wallet. After selecting the appropriate payment option and submitting the order, you will be forwarded directly to the payment provider BitPay, through which the payment is made. The Bitcoin price is calculated depending on the current price at BitPay and immediately converted into euros by BitPay. The platform does not charge any transaction fees for paying with the cryptocurrency. If the order is canceled, the amount will be refunded in euros to a traditional bank account.

Are you expanding into other countries?

It was only at the beginning of this year that the two delivery services Just Eat and Takeaway.com merged. Other Takeaway.com subsidiaries such as Lieferando or EAT.ch have been cooperating with BitPay for some time and have been offering Bitcoin as a payment option ever since. However, since BitPay has ceased its activities in Germany since 2019, German users will be denied this payment option until further notice.

According to the Crypto Valley Journal, Just Eat operates in addition to France in twelve other countries with a total of over 27 million customers and 112,000 restaurant partners. If the concept proves itself in France, the Bitcoin payment option via BitPay could soon be made available to millions of people, according to the Journal.

Why Germany is left out at BitPay

BitPay was also active in this country until 2019, before the Bitcoin payment processor completely withdrew from Germany. Well-known providers who offered Bitcoin payments via the service at the time were, for example, Microsoft and Lieferando. According to BTC-Echo, the reason for the withdrawal was planned drastic regulatory measures by the federal government, through which crypto companies like BitPay fell under the custody of the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin). In the course of the respective draft law, the company announced its withdrawal from Germany only a short time later.
